Mr. CHEN, Shao-Ming

Devoted to Tzu Chi’s four missions and attending to
other’s needs

Teacher Shao-Ming Chen’s parents were farmers and he was
fully supported by them. He did very well at his schools, thus he was
admitted to National Taiwan Normal University. After completing his
master’s program in chemical engineering from a Japanese university,
he returned to Taiwan and worked for the Industrial Technology
Research Institute and other private companies, utilizing his expertise
in research & development, as well as process improvement. Teacher
Chen and his wife joined Tzu Chi in 1982, when Tzu Chi Nursing College
needed faculty members, so he decided to teach chemistry there,
commuting between western Taiwan and Hualien. Later, he left
western Taiwan and moved to Hualien, devoted himself to Tzu Chi
Foundation’s four missions, and was promoted to deputy CEO of Tzu
Chi Foundation. Teacher Chen attended to the needs of others in his
lifetime and left a legacy of love to benefit the needy after passing. His
love will reside in our hearts forever.
