Mrs. KO, Kuei-Ying
Putting “giving is receiving” into action
Teacher Kuei-Ying Ko lost her mother when she was young. Due to
the civil war in China, she left Fujian Province, China for Taiwan with
her father in late 1940s. After her father passed away, Teacher Ko
relocated to Taichung to learn hairdressing, and her professionalism
was highly regarded by her clients. After getting married, she took
good care of her husband and children, while her husband worked
for a government agency and earned very little. Teacher Ko believed
in “giving is receiving” and “The grace of dripping water should be
reciprocated by a gushing spring,” and taught her children by personal
example to attend to other’s needs. She was a Buddhist and respected
the natural law of birth, aging, sickness and death, so she decided to
give of herself for cultivating good physicians who will look after their
patients compassionately.
